JoAnne's Spiritual Journey

HomeRealityJan 9, 2009
When given the occasion to hear or speak an uncomfortable reality, I have choices. I can hear it and grow, I can share it and grow, or I can ignore it in favor of maintaining my comfort zone. The truth merely provides me with an opportunity for growth. The rest is up to me.

Reality is not always something we want to face. I am going through incidents with a friend of mine, sharing about them to bring them into perspective. Things that have been buried resentments and trauma which has affected and distorted our thinking. So much of our "origin" is compiled of old tapes and mixed messages and can still play out in today. What is comfortable doesn't mean it is a good place to be.

Our character they say is formed in the first five years of our life. For some in a dysfunctional family, this was a traumatic time and we need to look at our behavior and think patterns to see if they are the ones we want to take into a new year.

Some people say, "Well I haven't gotten to Step Six yet!" That doesn't mean I can't look at it, instead of walking around acting out in my disease. I do what I call the Step One, Two, Three Waltz every morning and the other Steps as they make themselves know in the day.
